It is our personal responsibility to find a way to turn every challenge into a postive outcome.

Common Goal, Uncommon Path We all walk different paths in life. Respecting each other for the Greater Good, and walking a path of Abundance is my challenge to you.

Before I get into the message...
It has been some time since I sent you all a message, let me apologize for the time in between emails. Some could use an excuse and say they were busy or other issues come up, but the honest truth is that I feel that when sending these out, it should be more about the non-profits (to the right) than myself. I am honored to serve on many different boards and numerous committees, and respect the many people here that I have the privilege to serve alongside. Honestly the last few months have been a whirlwind of challenges and work for non-profits here in the community. I see so many great people who work hard every day, and keep to the mission of a better Coastal Bend. This message is for you, and the people you knowingly and unknowingly inspire every day.

We all choose to live here...

Part of the frustration we all experience in the Coastal Bend comes from our potential, or rather our frustration of not reaching our potential. Often I hear many people saying we have so much potential here, and they are right, you are right, we do have an enormous potential here. Frustration often comes from people who want to move too fast or too slow, or even not move at all. Frustration comes from many of us battling each other on issues and forgetting that we all choose to live here and are just as much a part of OUR community together as the next person.

We all choose to live here, and frankly if we were a city out in the middle of nowhere, we would have a pretty nice city to live in. The knowledge we all have of our great potential along the coast contributes to our frustration because we know we should be so much more. We know and can almost see what our potential is, we aren't there yet, and yes I agree it is frustrating. The key is to keep communicating, working together, and making series of steps towards our potential, our path to making a better community for our future generations.

Greater Good Above All
Look back and think of the last few years in our community. We have worked together in different initiatives to help fight diabetes, cancer, premature births, help mentor our youth, and many more very worthy causes that directly affect our family members. I couldn't be more proud of the thousands of lives saved by our ability to work together.

Now think about opportunities and issues we have been divided on. Think back about how each of us felt emotionally or non-emotionally on an issue and how we as human beings treated each other. Even though each of us have different perspectives, experiences, opinions, and positions - we must continue to agree to communicate respectfully and with dignity towards each other.

It is our duty as citizens of the Coastal Bend to hold the Greater Good above our egos, above our agendas, and above our own ambitions. We can agree to disagree on how we "Get there," but we can all agree on the goal to make this a better community for our future generations. The Greater Good is what we lose when we divide ourselves and irresponsibly forget to Agree to Disagree. Now more than ever, the Greater Good must be our focus and our collective goal must be to make a better community for our future generations.

Coastal Bend working together

Regionalization and combining efforts amongst the Coastal Bend communities has been an initiative the last couple years. That initiative has led to getting us closer to the Abundance mentality from where we have been in years past; the Scarcity mentality.

Scarcity is where people feel there will always be limited jobs, resources, and money to go around. They effectively protect their piece of the pie and not often are willing to share it with others. Abundance mentality believes that there will always be more jobs, resources, and money to be made, by helping each other "Bake another pie."

My own industry of developing websites and database applications is from a certain number of people who "Baked another pie" by creating the internet, creating e-commerce, and creating MILLIONS of jobs and the flow of BILLIONS of dollars. Imagine each of us focusing our energy on Abundance mentality living... think of what you and I and all of us could achieve, together. All the while, creating a better community for future generations.

Follow Through and the Extra Mile

You're probably saying, that's great Chad, but how the heck do I get involved? How the heck do I balance community work and my work that pays the bills? The truth is, you probably are already helping in the community more than you know. Imagine the simplest of changes one can make... for free:

  • Randomly say hello to strangers and smile for no reason at all. If you find they are visiting the area, thank them for coming and welcome them to come back and visit.

  • If you hear someone speaking negative of anyone, let them know you choose to not participate in that activity. It's time we learn to support each other instead of pull each other down. Be responsible with your words.

  • If you hear someone say, "That can't be done in the Coastal Bend." Know that others may be able to indeed get it done... don't hold people back with negative statements without knowing all the facts. Be responsible with your words, and be positive and support each other.

That's three easy ways to help us all get to an Abundance mentality and it requires Follow Through on your part and even more so, "Going the Extra Mile" to show people around you, that YOU have CHOSEN to be a positive light in our community. YOU make an enormous difference by those little steps above.

As you go out into the community, you'll hear the above statements more than ever, because truthfully you're looking for it - the reality is that many who say those things WANT to believe in abundance, but over the years perhaps their heart was broken on lost efforts or they are just waiting for a good friend like you to help them out of scarcity mentality.

God bless, hope you have a great week. Keep in mind the great community efforts on the right. By no means are these the only efforts out there. I just do my best in getting info out that has been sent to me and God bless you all for the work you do for each other!

Email me for more info, you know I'd love for you to be a part of it all! Encourage your friends to sign up at www.ChadMagill.com, and receive these emails every few months or so. Help people become a part of our community.

Lead by Example - Lead by Action - Lead by Commitment.

Chad

PDAP Website

Please consider joining us on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 for lunch at the Solomon P. Ortiz Center as we Celebrate 30 Years of PDAP in the Coastal Bend.

Because PDAP receives no local, state or federal government funds, we rely totally on the generosity of our community for financial support.

Your sponsorship is very important as we continue to fight the rising tide of substance abuse and chemical dependency in the Coastal Bend. We are winning, but it takes your help.

PDAP’s goal is to provide alcohol and drug abuse and addiction prevention programs for young people, teenagers, adults and parents through our three locations in Corpus Christi, Kingsville and Alice.

Our program is proven; it works, and it has successfully helped save thousands of lives in our community. It is a program for the entire family – FREE and anonymous to everyone who comes for help.
